Hi Folks!
So glad to be here, and am learning as I go along. I've just started building a site, and still learning my way around, and just have a few questions.
* Is there a vacation setting? Where one can put the store/site on vacation for a short period of time?
* I've created two categories so far, and several sub-categories under one of them. I've entered 10 products so far, each in their particular sub-categories, however, they all appear under the Main category only (and the sub-categories are empty and read 0). Hope that makes sense, lol!
* I've just signed onto Google checkout, and it requests that one choose a shopping cart. There are so many, and don't know which one to pick -- is there a recommended one?
Thanks so much!
Laura

| Vacation settings are under the settings or account tab on the dashboard. Your store will be visible, but customers won't be able to buy anything. You don't need a google checkout cart. This site already has a checkout and cart. You just need your google ID number and Google Key number .

If you put your products into the main category and then assigned a second category as the subcategory, only the first category will show up in admin. However, in your storefront the products will show in both. At least, that's the way it's been working in my stores.

Hello again!
Thank you Tinsign -- I've made a note of the vacation feature, and glad to know that there is already a cart. I'm hoping that I can validate the account this week, and then I should be able to bypass that cart screen I imagine, and be ready to go!
Hiya Gayle! I'm still confuzzled, lol! From the 'outside' I see the same problem, where all subcategories appear as zero. Oh well -- I'll keep adding items and see what happens.
Thanks all!

If you're looking at the category count number that is in ( ), it doesn't count secondary category assignments. The item only "counts" in it's first category but when viewing the secondary category it's there.

Yes, that's what I found confusing. That the total amount appearing within the parenthesis besides each of the sub-categories, appears as 0 -- rather than the true number amount of items, relegated to that particular sub-category.
If I were a shopper and were to see that, I would assume then that the sub-categories were empty. Let's say for example, that I was shopping for vintage silver jewelry. I would have no reason to click on the "Silver" sub-category, if there was a zero sitting besides it.
In fact, as a shopper I may just click out altogether, falsely assuming that there was no silver jewelry at that particular site. That's why I thought it was a glitch, and couldn't understand the point of adding sub-categories if they don't display to the buyer at first glance, the true count.
But if this is how it is supposed to appear, then all is well. Thanks again.

If you use custom templates you can hide the ( ) count. In the homespun store, I keep it on the main cats but hide it on all the subcats. ... for all the reasons that you just listed above!
