Well, it is making an extremely futile attempt to snow here in central Minnesota - it's spitting flakes and the sun is trying to shine at the same time - go figure! We really are in a drought area here, so could use a good foot or two to catch up. Generally we get a ton of snow during the high school basketball tournaments and hockey tournaments, which should be coming up real soon!

Meantime, I found some "comfort food" in the kitchen - just stirred up a batch of double-fudge brownies! Yummmyy! Got a fresh carton of organic whole milk - I'm ready to go!

Nothing like hot chocolate brownies and cold milk on a winter's day, snowed in or not!

So much for our beautiful southern Appalachian weather. It was really warm last night & we opened one of the bedroom windows up only to wake up to snow flurries!!!

Just had to go and open his mouth!

I was born & raised in Central IL. I moved out here last April and do not miss a bit of it. And I can relate the the slow pace. I was raised in a small town of almost a hundred during a "baby boom" or when a big family moved into one of the 2 "mansions" (aka billion bedroom huge old houses). It was really laid back but flat and cold and windy in the winter. I remember having to climb out windows and dig out the back door many times. And the drive would drift so bad you had to dig to find the cars!

I really don't miss the weather there or the flatness. I love these mountains! Living in a temperate rain forest is just sooooo awesome! And it is so laid back. My ex-husband always had to be in town, hated the country & small towns. I am sure some of you have heard of Champaign-Urbana, IL. Home of the Fighting Illini. Um... I mean the University of IL. (not supposed to say Fighting Illini anymore). It is not a huge town compared to Chicago or NYC but still too big for me.

I really don't mind having it take the good part of a Saturday once a month to go to the grocery store. I really love the hiking. Here there are "good reasons" to get outdoors where in IL all you can do is go to an over crowded, itty bitty, forest preserve; walk in corn or bean fields, and be seen for miles. The summers there were too much for me. Here the summers are great. If it gets too hot, you go for a hike b/c you can always find a good 10 to 20 degree cooler place. And it is fairly secluded. And the nearest fast food restaurant is a good 30 minutes or so away. You are almost forced to cook at home. We have restaurants but nothing "cheap". So it makes eating out more of a treat like I feel it should be.

I can not wait for it to warm back up! I am ready to build a fire! I am FROZEN! (it's really windy).

Thought you'd like to see how this all looks to us right now. The third one is the road that runs in front of our house (see the mailbox). I love it when you can't see a road. We've been on a Level 3 since last night, so only emergency vehicles are allowed on the roads. That's why you can't see the road! (If you click on the pix, you can see them larger.)

Thought you'd like to see how it looks for a couple of our indoor cats (the other nine are waiting in line, out of view)!

Good for the bird there is glass in front of them!!!

I love cats but I am not sure I would want 13 of them. I was up to 4 at one time, a dog, and 2 kids. I was good with that. Now just have 2 dogs and 2 kids.

I would love to live in the appalachians my friend grew up there. I am in a small town but big cities all around. I would love the seclusion.

Janis, I LOVE your pictures. Those adorable cats made me laugh. We have only one indoor cat now, but 6 all together. Two are in the garage at night and outside during the day. They lost their house privileges when one started scratching up the furniture and the other started peeing on everything, I know why he does, but can't deal with it now...We only have little Mindy cat inside, along with a Pug and a little terrier, both very good girls. I love cats. All of our cats and all but one of our dogs (6) are rescued animals.

Here's Mindy when our youngest Grandson put a Santa hat on her...she's NOT happy...
