1" and counting. 12-16" expected between now and Saturday night. We grow and can a lot of our own food, so that means that we don't have to run to the panicky stores. We do all of our shopping once a month, anyway, so we're well-stocked right now. I'm making lots of hot crock-pot meals. That way, if the power goes down, the crockpots will hold their heat for a couple of hours. We're making extra bread and rolls today, since you can always eat bread without heating it up!

Water's in the buckets for flushing and drinking. (We have well water, so the possibility of no electricity means the possibility of no water.) Showers have been taken early, dishes all washed up, and the laundry will continue until either the power goes down or the clothes are all clean! Being without water is the worst thing for us about power outages.

Kerosene lamps are filled for possible time of no power. We only have fuel oil and electric for heat, so no back-up there. We keep our house at about 54 degrees in the winter anyway, though, so it takes a lot before we feel it. (Our 13 indoor cats deal with the cold by eating more and hiding in warmer places around the house.)

The bird feeders are full, and suet is hiding in protected areas, for the birds outside. Curtain liners are on locked windows (we have an old farm house) and certain rooms closed off already. Garbages cans have been hidden near the back door, so that they don't blow around. My husband took the last half of his work day as a 1/2 personal day and is already safely home.

This much wet snow has a lot of impact for us  in the country. The obvious is that you can't go anywhere for a while, especially when wet snow with high winds (like this is) piles in drifts. Trees break under the weight of the snow, the larger ones faring the worst. Power/phone lines snap under the weight, and flat roofs cave in. (Did you ever wonder why the traditional US home has a peaked roof? You know, the way they taught you to draw it in kindergarten? It's so that the snow can fall down the sides. Seriously.)

Now that we've done what we can, the rest is in God's merciful Hands.

Have a fun weekend!

52? That's cold..I keep mine on at 69/70, but we have lived in Southern Cal and the eastern south for the last 20 years (Philly Natives), so I guess we feel it more when it gets cold..(unlike the cold Philly days when we were younger).was 70+ here yesterday, now it's raining and about in the high 50's

I'm about an hour northwest of Columbus, OH in a small village. We're getting hit with the snow, too. I can actually identify with both of you since I'm currently living in Ohio, have lived in the state of Delaware (1/2 hour from Philly) and am originally from S. Jersey and have been accused of having a Philly accent, i.e., I pronounce water as wooder!

Up here in Michigan, I feel your pain.  I am so ready for spring to break.  I work outside with my son (construction) and we are tried of wearing 18 LBS of clothes to work.

But I am keeping a positive outlook.  This is the last blast, and things will be turning green soon.

I am in Ohio too !

Hubbard, Ohio on the Pa border.   Hubbard is about halfway between Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pa.

We are to get a foot of snow between now and tomorrow afternoon sometime.

I made a big dish of beef stroganoff from stratch and we took some over to my elderly neighbor just a minute ago so she wouldn't have to worry about dinner tonight.

Got the candles out, water jugs filled and extra blankets ready too.

We keep missing the snow, although there is plenty on the ground here, leftovers from before Christmas, with a sprinkling of stuff on top once in awhile. I grew up on a farm, so I can identify with what you're saying.

Now the only question is - I didn't see you shopping for jigsaw puzzles in my store - so whatcha gonna do to keep occupied, anyway?

I just love "snow days," because we puzzle like crazy!

It's springtime here in the southern Appalachians and I am loving it!
