How long does it take to get shown on the results pages of google and yahoo? I submitted my site to google web but not products.

If that is all you have done so far, then it will probably take several months or longer to even make a small dent.

It is hard work having a stand alone website. YOU have to do the leg work to get noticed.

You need to get out there and make your site seen.
