Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of using Twitter to help drive traffic to my store? As you can probably tell, I'm new, and my twitter account is not completely set up as of yet.

Any other ways of getting traffic? I have had only one sell so far, and only a few lookers, so right now I have only listed a small number of skin care items and one DVD set. I am a hard worker, (keep variety of things on eBay). I just can't seem to master the art of getting visibility for my store?

Thanks for any help/direction that can be provided.

Beverly

I list items on Oodle.com and Kaboodle.  Oodle.com lets you post a free ad, and directs buyers to your store.  I also recommed the Selling Lounge Forum http://sellinglounge.com/

There is so much information on that forum about getting your web site noticed.  Everything from blogging (I use Google for my blog) to sites such as Kaboodle, links, etc.   Spend some time reading the various topics in that forum and you will get some great ideas for promoting your business.

Carolyn beat me to it.  I was going to tell you the same thing.  It is a lot of work but the more you do the more traffic you get.  I use twitter and have a little traffic from it but you have to be on it a lot.  There are applications like SocialOomph.com that allow you to schedule your tweets ahead of time.  It is free and there are many more but some are not free.  The Selling Lounge is a great place to get lots of information. What is hard for me is finding the time to continually tweet.

Basically, the more you blog, twitter, facebook, list daily, write articles, etc etc the more your name is out there and the more you get seen.  That is how you get more traffic. Hope it help,

Nicole

There's a link in my signature to a bunch of the previous discussions on this forum - lots of good ideas there! I recommend The Selling Lounge, too.

The more items in your store, the more traffic you will get, as long as you're sure to include relevant content. (That is, write about what you're selling, using words that people will search for.)

Hey guys,

Thanks for sharing information. I'm off to check out the listing sites.

Does anyone list their items on more than one place, i.e., their BISI and eBay at the same time? If so, how does this work?

It sounds like there needs to be a 100% commitment to one or the other. Is that accurate?

I just feel like I'm in the middle of the forrest. Unsure of which direction to take, and I'm usually the one who sees the forrest, and plods right through by keeping my eye on the "sun" for direction forward. With little traffic, I am struggling to see the light.

I just posted a free ad over on Oodle.com. How do you direct buyers to your store?

I just posted a new add on Oodle too, and was just wondering how many adds people put on in say a week or so!

Thanks,

Larry

As for twitter, seems it gets the item quite a few hits initially. But as for sales...well not sure there. By the way the views (hits) when I click it use to tally all products in ascending order now it doesn't (either with IE or foxfire) any one else have this glitch?

Michael,

In the description of my item, I refer buyers.  I say:  "Visit http://csbsews.com for more details, photos and purchasing information".   I keep the item description fairly brief.   There is a "reply to my ad button" on the page, but I like to give the customers a direct link.  Also, if you scroll to the bottom of your ad, there is an item count of visitors.

I list most of my items on Oodle, it is my understanding that they feed to many sites.  The items are there for 30 days, and if you sell the item and want to delete the ad you can.  After thirty days they will contact you and advise you that the ad is not active.  But the notification e-mail has a one-click re-activation link. I get a lot of visitors directly from Oodle and I have had sales from buyers there.  As far as I know there are no limits on the number of ads you place.

I noticed on Oodle.com home page, at the bottom. There is a link for Advertisers > Add your listings to the Oodle network.

It states Data feeds are best for sites with a large number of listings or listings that change frequently. If your site has fewer than 100 listings, your best option is to post an ad linking to the URL of your existing listing.

I was browsing through the classifieds and click on some ads that were redirected to the actual web site.

I was a little puzzled on what Oodle meant by "listings under 100 post an ad linking to the URL of your existing listing".

Thanks Carolyn
