sweetboutique (11/3/2009)
Vintageday (11/3/2009) I use Google and Propay.
I am Not thrilled with Propay- too pricey and I am unhappy that I don't get the buyer's address from them when I receive Payment.
SO, I am looking for a change
ProPay is too pricey? In comparison to PayPal or GCO? They're all right about the same.
The address is a bit frustrating, which is why I wish it were a BISI requirement to have both billing/shipping filled out upon
checkout.
Let see, I am paying 54 dollars a year to use them.
The fees are higher than paypal/GCO for me. Paypal & GCO does not charge me to withdraw money into my bank account ( yes I know it's a small account)

| My feelings as well. While I would love to find an alternative to PayPal, I don't see any way that Propay will be less expensive. Propay has an annual fee, the percentage they take is higher, and (as the previous poster mentioned), they charge to transfer money to your bank account. If I am missing something here, let me know!

I agree with the previous post. As a "small" seller there is no cheaper alternative to Paypal and Google Checkout. Propay costs way too much unless you are a high volume seller. And I love the free transfer to my bank account via Paypal.

| Propay fees are about 20% higher for me than PayPal. So, on a $10.99 item I pay .57 with PayPal and .71 if a buyer uses Propay. And the annual fee with Propay, which comes to $4.50 per month, adds a little to each transaction as well. However, when I started offering credit card payments through Propay, my sales doubled. I think there are a lot of buyers out there who would much rather pay with a credit card than use PayPal. So, while it costs me a little more per transaction (under .25 per $10.00), I don't really mind because I know I would probably not have had half of those sales!

Way too much, Caroline? I get that its MORE, and I get that its an outlay to pay the 55$ as a new seller. But, I truely, 100% believe that anyone in "ready to sell" mode (store is set up, items show in search engines, some sales coming in) will pay off that 55$ very quickly.
I suspect you would need less than 4 additional orders to pay off the 55$, and I fully suspect they would COME for you.... and then 4 more, and 4 more, and 4 more!
I still have some people pay using Paypal, so I use that money for shipping, buying supplies, etc. I let the money build in Propay, so Im only paying the 35 cents to withdraw it twice a month or so. I had not realized the percentage was higher per transaction, BUT, you do pay a fee to do refunds, which is not charged on Paypal.

sew-n-sewpatterns (11/4/2009) I think there are a lot of buyers out there who would much rather pay with a credit card than use PayPal.I'm not sure I understand how it's different for the buyer to pay with a credit card through Propay than with PayPal? PayPal allows buyers to make a credit card payment without creating a PayPal account, so why would buyers find Propay more acceptable than PayPal? Is it a transparent payment process and the Propay payment is integrated with your checkout rather than sending them to a separate site? (I am not at all familiar with how Propay works.) If anything, I would think that the PayPal name is better known making buyers more willing to use it than Propay.

David - feel free to buy something from my store, so you can see how it works. Ill refund ya! www.GirlsHorseClothes.com (leave me a note during check out so Ill know its you)
Customers NEVER see the name Propay. You are right - they have never heard of it... not even after they just finished checking out from my store!
The differences are very very significant!
#1 People HAVE heard of Paypal, and have some kind of opion/pre-conceived notion about it, which might be BAD, or, might be "oh, I dont have an account there" (so they leave).
Of course its true that one does not need to HAVE a Paypal account, and also true that they do not need to CREATE one ---- but, if a customer PERCEIVES they need to already hvae one, or will need to create one... then that is the reality for THAT SALE.
Some do not want to make a Paypal account because.... They think it will be time consuming... they think it will be an identity risk.... they think it will lead to Spam emails.... other reasons.
#2. In order to use Paypal to "Pay by credit card", the customer is taken to another website.... even someone like me who uses Paypal every single day.... going to another website is always a chance for my ISP to crash, my computer to lock up, or, just a DELAY in loading, leading to me getting distracted by something else, opening a new window, check email, whatever. Maybe Illl still be in the mood to buy when I get back to it, maybe not.
With Propay, the fields are JUST THERE on the same check-out screen the person is already using. I think the LOOK of that may be the most important aspect. It makes a site look "real". I do offer Paypal ALSO, just like some of the big sites do... but no big successful sites only offer paypal.

Sales jumped, significantly jumped, once I added ProPay. It's well worth the small amount of $55 per year.
(Significantly to the point that the first month I used ProPay, I nearly hit the monthly limit on the account.)
I know as a consumer, I would much rather pay directly on a site than PayPal or GCO.
I have, recently even, looked for items on another site when they only offered PayPal.
Benefits of ProPay for me are that I use the ProPay debit card to make store purchases, pay for monthly store bills (such as BISI, our 888 and 877 numbers, Endicia and other postage needs,) and merchandise.

Cindy -
Thanks for the explanation. I have to think that most of my customers are comfortable with PayPal, since the vast majority of them use that method of payment on my eBay listings.
However, it is possible that I am missing out on customers who may find me on search engines, although I have no way to know how many that might be. I will reconsider ProPay, and may add it sometime down the road.
Thanks!
