I think it would be helpful for Sellers to list the shipping cost of a single item directly in thier description.  Ive only been here a couple days, and while shopping around, its annoying to have to go 1/2 way thru the checkout to see what the shipping is!

Check out my store Pocono's Plethora!

Im looking for New or EUC Baby Items!!

I guess it depends on how you run your business but most "big" websites do not list the cost of shipping in each item. Most you go through checkout to find out shipping or they have a shipping chart somewhere. Also, how can a seller list the shipping cost if they use calculated shipping???

Not to mention, Tomas has set it up where someone can put their zip code in to show what shipping would be.  Or has that been removed since I last checked?  I did notice that if someone is international however they do have to go into checkout.  Maybe Tomas should implement something that also allows an international user to select his/her country and not just zip codes.  Jennifer, how about mentioning that to him?  I also use calculated shipping.

This is true. It can be a bit difficult to get out of the marketplace mentality (ie: eBay and other similar places). Our stores are stand alone websites. Do some "window shopping" on the web and you will see that it is a bit different than listing at a marketplace. Different people do different things for their shipping. (Since I have many small ticket items, I chose to set up flat rate shipping on all orders in order to make things simple for my customers and an encouragement to buy more than just one item.)

I use calculated shipping based on the weight of the item and then of course, where it is going, so there is no way I could put that in my auctions. If it is costing me sales, that's a bummer, but otherwise I end up overcharging for shipping, because I would take my zip code and the furthest away from me - say Florida, California, Texas, Washington, and Maine (I'm in Minnesota) and figure out the costs and then go with the highest plus a percentage to cover my butt. Then I'd have to be refunding money to the customers for shipping overcharges.

I still haven't figured out when they buy multiples and the weights are all different, what on earth to do with that, because each item carries its own shipping to Google or wherever, there is no option to combine shipping and then generate an invoice with the correct shipping, so I would think that would kill additional sales worse than not having it in the auction. For example. almost all of my puzzles are coded as 2 pounds, because that's the USPS category they fall into. However, they don't actually weigh quite that much, so if you buy two or more, the weight is not 4 pounds or 6 pounds - probably closer to 4.5 pounds, so I'd be overcharging a lot of postage and refunding.

I also have a lot of items that need calculated shipping which can't be listed in the item description.  If the item is 1 pound or less I do put the cost of shipping in the description.  But it is also true that with internet shopping, the cost of shipping is not known till you check out.  I just had a multiple item purchase (woohoo!!) and the calculator worked beautifully to calculate and the buyer paid what it came out to.  I would rather have them overpay than underpay.  When I packed the order the actual shipping was less, so I refunded the buyer the overage.  I don't know how to get around that.  I have not had enough sales to have refunding become a problem - that's a problem I dream of having

I think you just mentioned it to him. I have NO pull on getting things done around here. I just throw out suggestions like the next person.

Some of my items can weigh up to 40lbs and there is no way to list shipping due to the zip code a shipment to Calif will be a lot more than to New York. Usually only auction sites post there shipping in the listing.

Most of my suppliers bill me a day later for shipping I don't even know the shipping until I have already paid for the product, most of my shipments are over 50lbs, and I have been selling retail for over 25 years owning 3 brick & mortar stores and 6 online stores
