| Whooooo!! Finally figured out what was wrong. My template file doesn't have a "layout.css", but in the Account Wrapper section, there is a line of code that ends with "acct.css" that I needed to change too. ^_^

earth (4/18/2009) Hello everyone!
I finally figured out how to make a custom template, thankfully. I was so very confused at first, but after reading all of the 8 or so pages of Christine's tutorial on how to make a custom template, thoroughly, and then reading them 2 more times ... I finally figured it out. So, because I am SO thankful that this resource is here, I'd like to make an updated post of how to make a custom template since there have been a lot of great changes -- but ones that have made the custom template process a little different. So here we go . . .
JenniVery well done. Just the right time to read this thread because I am starting to build my second webstore here in BISI. Can I just copy and paste the code on the custom template page instead of uploading? Also, I am trying to unzipped the file... Having problem with it.

bymaggiecook (4/28/2009) hi!
i have got to step 5 and 6 but when i put links in another browser there is no code it just says straight away save, not save as and it says either all files or css which i left as css and when i opened it went into dreamweaver which i have but not used before, is this still ok to copy and paste from dreanweaver?
kind regards,
maggie
Hi!
I've been really busy lately, so I haven't had time to reply to everyone.
To answer your question, some browsers will ask you to save the file, rather than having the code show up on the page. This is completely fine, as long as you make sure you save it under the same file name. And yes, dreamweaver is fine also, as long as it still ends up as a "css" file.
Good luck,
Jenni

Hi!
I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I think I have the right idea, so correct me on all this if I'm wrong.
If you are asking if you can just view the "source" code of the template, and then copy all that, you can't. You must upload the files from the template because the source code will differ from the actual code you need.
There is code for the "Checkout CSS" tab, if that's what you mean. Under the tabs (when you click on the checkout tab), it will say something about ... if you want to customize checkout get the code here, and "here" will be a link and you get the code to customize the checkout pages from there. If I remember correctly, you just save the file, open it, then copy the code, and paste to the checkout tab.
As for having troubles opening the zip file, what kind of problem are you having? It could have something to do with your computer settings, instead. Sometimes if your firewall or antivirus is on, it won't let you download anything, so that could be the problem. But let me know the details if you can.
Good luck,
Jenni

If you can't unzip the file, it will likely only let you view it in the browser window. As long as you are viewing the actual template in the browser instead of your storefront, you can copy/paste the source and save it as a .txt file. If you can get the file unzipped, you should just be able to just open it as a .txt file.

I cannot unzipped the code. Do you know any free download software for zip file And how will I upload it on my account?

ok, I've done everything you noted, but when I view either each individual page (home, about, etc.) or select enable custom templates the layout is completely different than what it should be. And I also am wondering if on the Account Wrapper page, does anything need to change as far as the 3rd line of coding as shown here:
href="http://public.mybisi.com/templates/01/_css/brown_account.css" type="text/css" media="screen/>
This is the middle line, in between the color and layout...but there's no mention of changing that.

That link should be changed to match the others according to the template you have chosen. Are you uploading the css files to your custom files area or are you linking to them in their current bisi location? Which template are you trying to display?

I've now changed the account wrapper as well. And I uploaded the css files layout, brown, brown account to the custom file manager. Maybe I am completely missing some steps? Are there more css files I need to change/upload? I was just following the instructions and thought I had it correct.
I'm using template 1 in brown. So the featured items are off on the right and then the categories are on the left, but when I view everything it just looks like a plain text page with links, images there are no borders and no border color.

It sounds like the style sheet links are not correct but it would be helpful if you could leave your templates activated so we could see the source code and the css. If the layout is displaying correctly, it might just be the image links in your css files that need adjusting.
