Mark McGwire hitting his 62nd Home Run in 1998.
Being a Cardinals fan, I was glued to the TV,
like many others around the nation.
Where were you?
Story on the TV / Radio Calls
Who was the pitcher?
No matter what you think about how he handled
his appearance in front of Congress.
Why were they there again? Oh yeah, to try to
come up with ideas to keep kids off of steroids.
A nice idea, but not the way I want my tax money spent.
There are other ways to get the message across.
Instead, the committee grilled those that were willing
to give their support, and try to help, using their popularity.
No matter what you think about his use of
performance enhancing drugs (legal or others),
this is one of the moments that still gives me goose bumps.
(I don't really remember Barry Bonds moment.
I know I was watching though.)

Two other moments that stand out, among many,
are the day Cal Ripken broke the consecutive
games played streak. Even though we knew
when it would happen, it was still a great moment.
Sept. 6th 1995.
Which is related to one of the saddest, although
it was before my time, Lou Gehrig's
"luckiest man on earth" speech.
From what I know of him, Cal Ripken is a good choice
to put Gehrig in second place on the consecutive
games played list.

I do follow some professional baseball but the moment in time that still gives me goosebumps was when my son's 12 year old Cal Ripken league team won the State Tournament and qualified for the world series!
Oh, and we had trading cards made up for them just like the big guys so if any of them are ever major leaguers, I can get you a REALLY rookie card!

That is a great moment.
Even if no one on the team "makes it big" in baseball,
I would guess there will be plenty of "remember when we.."
discussions in the future.

Among the parents as well as the boys!

I was able to catch the inning that Cal Ripken broke the record
on ESPN Classic last night.
They didn't play enough of the celebration for me.
Sometimes I'm in the mood for goose bumps.

| I have the card with Cal Ripken Jr. where it has "F--k You" under the bat. I've stored it away in a box and i'm going to sit on it for about 20 years.

Just an FYI, that card is Billy Ripken, '89 Fleer.
I would love to know how that made it through
all of the inspections.
