OMG, I am dying, lol.

I just noticed my last 5 searches.  4 of them returned ZERO results because the searcher put an "s" or an "es" on the end of the word.

I don't think it's right for me to use the plural form of the word in the title or description when they will only receive one item.  My category names have the plural form but the search here obviously ignores the category names.

Any chance this suggestion will be put into action??

If not I have to figure something out.

One more question -- does the search look at titles only? or does it search the description as well??

Include the plural forms of the searchwords in the KEYWORDS section found under the SEO tab in your Product listing area.

The product search does also search the keywords SEO field (title and keywords). So you could put all of your search variations, plurals, commonly misspelled words, or relevant search terms with out affecting the way your product title or descriptions are displayed.

using misspellings is definitely a good tip. Common mistakes can still turn-up real answers

so does this mean this suggestion is tossed into the water?

Thing is the option you suggest using wasn't here at the time this store was started.  going back to edit every item just isn't possible.

One reason is that PLEASE WAIT thingy takes forever and a day for me - often at least 3 minutes.  I use IE6 and have no intendion of using anything else.   As I told you before Tomas, the layout of the admin pages in IE6 are totally screwed up.  I even looked at it at the public library - they too use IE6.

That's because I didn't design it for IE6 and had no intentions of supporting it. It's an outdated browser and one of Microsoft's worst builds.

I do have to partially agree with poster, though, in that it would be extremely time consuming to go back through every product and enter the plural forms. For the misspellings, I completely agree that those should be done one by one on the SEOs, since there's really no way for a search to handle that. But the plurals would be GREATLY appreciated! Especially for folks who search for pillowcases instead of pillowcase, or shams instead of sham, etc.  I guess I'm looking more for a reverse plural version, though - like if the word is part of the larger word, return the result. (like if you search stockings, it would return "stock" "stocking" "king" "kings"). Then just give the option for the user to limit the search to the SPECIFIC word they typed.

Also, would love a "search title and description." That way I don't have to try and shove so much into my titles.

But I love love BISI, so even if this doesn't come to fruition - you rock Tomas, and THANK YOU!!!

I'm really glad I read this because I'll now be able to make better use of the SEO option.  I thought it was there only for the search engines to pick up the words and didn't realize it had to do with the words people use to find the product.  Using variations of the most important keywords sounds much more important to me now.  I will spend time editing since I am still in "move in" mode.

I love this site because it feels like we have more control over our listings.  My cyber friends call it tweaking.  I call it alot of work but I've learned so much while doing it.  I knew nothing about any of this not so long ago.

I'm glad I saw this thread too.

I try to put in all of the words and variations that I think a customer might use to find items like mine.

The hard part is that different parts of the country sometimes use other words to mean something that I may not know about, or use plural forms, or singular forms instead of the plural ones, or worse yet similar words - but not close enough (hand-crafted instead of handmade ...).

I know I can't cover ALL search terms, but I try to do as many as I can without sounding "spammy"
