I'd suggest keeping the same code that is in the sample templates and just styling the background, fonts, images and such to suit your needs.

I would agree the easiest way to do a custom template would be to use the sample and change only the CSS. A complete custom CSS layout can be a pain until you really get the hang of CSS layouts. It is far different than HTML layouts. And with CSS there are a TON more "options" as to what you can do with things. But that is why CSS is so nice.

Thanks so much for posting your store here! I have a marketing background and it always interests me why people choose what they do and what is important to them when designing.

I really like the idea of just keeping the sample BISI template and changing color or font. My craft shop just needs a little softer look and I want to change the appearance alone. Make it more feminine. The rest of what BISI has is just fine.

I saw this article on color choices and thought I'd share. It made me think about what feeling a craft or jewelry store should project!

Countryhorse- the paint ponies in your shop is how I found you here from the Bay. I saw them on a Google search.  I really liked that new template!

Since I know enough html to make me "dangerous" , how simple would it be to learn css?

From what I have read in this posts, I can start with a sample template, change the colors and fonts?? I would like to do that but keep the colors the same to match my new logo that was just installed.

how simple would it be to learn css?

Define CSS. Do you mean font changes, background changes, and simple color changes? Or do you mean complete CSS layouts?

If you are dangerous with HTML, you might be able to fumble through the CSS colors & font. That part was not hard at all. Padding is a bit trickier as you have to "play" to find the right spacing. Layouts are a whole other world from HTML.

We need a thread for "help! I broke it or am stuck". Going to start one now...

I just started playing with custom templates.  I needed my website to load the store within the web (instead of linking to a new page) and also needed customers to be able to get back to the main website.

So far I have made it do that if you click the Shop Now! button it opens the bisi site, and if you select Home, it brings you back.  Now I need to do the other links and get some more product listed!

That's what customizing is all about... making your store meet YOUR needs. I intend to integrate my website and my store better eventually (when my busy schedule allows) so I'll be watching what you do with much interest.

Please post when you have updates.
