Is there any way to identify inactive products from admin without opening the edit page of each product?

Your product image from the admin should look like this:

Instead of "out of stock" it will be labeled as "disabled"

But I don't use inventory tracking. I'm talking about the items that are not "activated" with the tick box on the product edit page. My inactive products show the image just like the active products.

Your inactive products should have the same behavior. I just used that screenshot as an example.
What browser and version are you using? This may only work with IE 7 or later and firefox.

firefox 2
The inactive item is not showing in my store front, as intended, but it's not giving any indication in admin that it's inactive.
