I was so happy. Made my first sell. Then found I had to refund the customers money. I have weight based on all my items and unknown to me when you check out it gives you the choice of flat rate boxes. The customer of course choose the flat rate box at a little of $38.00 instead of the international priority box cost of over $70.00. I charge actual shipping so there was no way I could eat over $30.00 on this sell. I have put a support ticket in asking if there was any way bisi could add a way for sellers to choice not to offer the flat rate boxes.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Linda

Shipping is always a headache.  I run into this all the time.  The calculater will not account for shapes or unusual conditions.  You can add S/H charges by flat rate, or %of weight, or by the amount of the subtotal.  In your settings.  Another thing I do is if my wieght is over 7 LBS I kick over to my alturnat carrier.

If you items average over 3 LBS I recomend changing you defualt carrier to UPS or Fed-Ex then the flat rate boxes won't show as a option.

As a serious computer novice I am always looking for work arounds.  This site has alot of them, but you have to look  I hope you can work it out.

YES! Only my customers were choosing the Flat Rate Envelope for international shipping. It happened twice. The first time the items actually fit and the second time they didn't. I paid the extra postage myself because I thought it was just unacceptable to bill a customer for extra shipping after they have already checked out. I totally sympathize with your situation!!!

After some discussion on the matter in the forums here, I think Tomas removed the Flat Rate Envelope from the options. I haven't checked it out but he said he would and I haven't had anyone else making that choice since then. I didn't realize the Flat Rate Box was still there. Hopefully he will remove that also.

Occasionally I can put a customers order into one of the flat rate options and save some on postage. When that happens, I like to give a refund to the customer. They love it and it creates some great customer loyalty and trust.

I have just been only selling/shipping to the USA only to avoid that problem.

I also use the flat rate shipping option instead of weight based because I do not how much each box/package will weigh until I get it all wrapped up.

I would like to open my store up to international, but I just haven't had the time to figure out the shipping ahead of time so that I know what to charge.   I like to put in my listings how much the shipping is for the different items so there are no surprises.

Gayla, could you ask Tomas to remove that option? Or how do I do that. I have put a support ticket in.

Thank You!

A support ticket is the only way I know of to contact Tomas. He is usually good to respond but it may take a week or more.

I've been selling only to the US also because I couldn't figure out how to get around buyers choosing usps flat rate (US) box. My other problem is media mail stuff. I usually put in the description that item will be shipped Media & then put in a flat rate.

Life at bisi is a learning curve for me, problem is these old bones like the straight & narrow these days, LOL
