Can you tell me if keywords that we enter in the SEO section should match words that we compose the ad with?  Maybe that's the important point that I'm missing.  I was under the impression that keywords are supposed to be words that potential buyers use when they do internet searches.  I've used so many words/terms under the sun related to each product that I thought someone would use while performing searches.  If keywords are supposed to match the words in the ad, then I've really screwed up.

Here's another question.  Should the keywords also match "the description" in the SEO section as well?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'll continue to search for solutions until I get it right once and for all.

The majority of your keywords should be used at least once in your product description and also in your SEO description. Put the most relevant keywords first. I personally don't include too many "extra" keywords but I do include possible misspellings and a few words that I probably didn't use but are relevant to my product.

Everyone has their own theory on these things but this is just what I do. Since the bulk upload doesn't include a field for keywords, many of my products don't have anything in the SEO section yet. But those same products still show up in a google web search. Thus it's my opinion that keywords are good but it's probably better to have fewer but stronger (more relevant to your page) keywords than lots of "possible" search terms.

You also asked about links in another post. I have never included links in any of my websites and I have had very good placement with google and the other search sites. Maybe it could be better with links, but I figure why fix what isn't broken.

I've read that the search engines don't value a reciprocal link at all. I've also read that you can hurt your rankings by participating in link exchanges. I tried a very popular link banner exchange briefly last year and didn't see any significant increase in traffic or sales. My theory is that anything free is probably nominal.

Thanks for your answer Gayla.  As I was trying to narrow down the possibilities, the keywords relating to the ad is making alot more sense to me.  So far, I've used tons more words and terms for each ad than I should have.  I loaded them up and it's obviously doing more harm than good.  I'm also gonna try a few listings with zero attributes.

I haven't decided what to do about the links yet.  I've read that ones that directly relate to things you're selling are good.  If nothing else, maybe I'll first try to eliminate a few and see how that goes.

I bought an SEO book through www.GNC-web-creations.com

It suggests more of a page by page approach - and then as much "matching" as you can do.

I am not fully sure what is meant by this - but my interpretation is to go with one "key word phrase" for a SINGLE page, and then make sure those words are repeated on THAT page.

I can definitly come up with many versions of a phrase a person might use to get to my items - to get to, say, 50 of my items.

So, what Im working towards is choosing one of those phrases for "product A", and including those words in the title, and also in the body of the description. Then, choosing another phrase for "product B" (A and B are very similiar items) and using that phrase in the title and also in the description.

Its a lot of work to change each thing - so instead, Ive put the time into my Catagory pages - where Im using more than one phrase in the SEO section, but not every single phrase I can think of - Im spreading "all of the ones I can think of" amongst the catagories (all similiar)

------
RIGHT NOW, my problem is CONVERSION. Im sad that Im seeing a decent amount of views, but NO PURCHASES for the past week +. Before that, I had a week of a sale each day - some days 2.

Im not sure what happened. I am very anxious there is something which is causing people to back off.

Of cousre, I understand there will be many more "viewers" than there ever would be buyers - but I feel like maybe the check out isnt working, or something else is causing a "block" for people to get the item into their cart and paid for.

(I also realize its probalby either a co-incidence, or something to do with having been newly indexed in Google that caused good sales for a week, and then nothing)

My sales have been slower than normal last week also but I thought it was because of school starting back in many states.

I think alot of people are also watching the Olympics... I know I certainly have been (and it's been an "interesting" competition in Beijing to say the least...). Anyways... that coupled with Back to School might be a couple of the contributors to slower sales????

I've been very slow too, but I just now had a nice sale come thru... so think positively!!! It certainly buoyed my spirits!!!

Gayla, would you be so kind as to give me the link to the class you started re: SEO. I saw it someplace on this forum but for the life of me can't find it again.

Now I have to go recheck what on earth I did with those keywords? I usually just put whatever I think people will use? I do know I kept putting "clothing" as my first keyword & now that I think of it, I never say the word "clothing" anyplace in any of my listings?? I say things like Girls Dress, Womens Shoes so maybe "girls" or "shoes" should be my lead keywords? Hmmmm could be the problem?

I think you are on the right track with your key word thinking now.

I'm not taking that class but I saw the post you're talking about. I think it was Cindy of GirlsHorseClothing that was taking it.
