I wanted to list real item (not test items) for the first time. I had no problem listing test items with flat base shipping. However, I realized that with flat rate shipping, there are only two shipping rate options, domestic or international. I am in the United States and would have preferred having "Domestic, Canada and All Else International" as options.

Consequently, I decided to do calculated shipping, since shipping would be calculated based on weight and location. However, when I tried to list items, I got an error message: "There were errors detected. Please check all required fields and values." When I checked the required fields and values, there is a red line around "weight" and I assume this is the problem, but the error is not apparent. I had inserted ".0625" for the weight for a item of 1 ounce. I tried a couple of times and still got the same error message. I then tried inserting the weight without the decimal point "0625" and I got the same error message; however, the item listed despite the error message.

I then went to test the item to determine that shipping was calculated correctly. When I added the item to the cart and went to the cart page, I inserted a zip code and clicked "calculate shipping", but I did not see a shipping rate displayed.
Shouldn't I see the calculated amount for shipping on the cart page?

When I went forward and clicked "checkout", in the total amount, it shows $00.00 for shipping.
What am I doing wrong here?

Also strangely, one of the test items I listed, I did not include an image since I was just testing shipping and an image is not a required field; however, when I added this "no image item" to my cart, a picture of what appears to be a toy truck came up as a image of the item. The image URL was: http://images.buyitsellit.com/_110.jpg Is this a bug? Again, I did not upload an image and moreover, I do not sell toys.

Thanks in advance for help with shipping problem and answers to the possible bug.

Hi AdornElements,
The shipping problem you're having might be because of the 4 decimal placement, try .07 or even 1# and see if it works.

Thanks for your reply.

I also initially thought that it was the 4 decimal placement; and consequently I did try with only 3 numbers. However, an error still appeared, although the item did list without the decimal point inserted.

I tried with just 2 numbers and it was the same thing. The number that I am trying to insert for 1 ounce is ".0625" since shipping is calculated in pounds. I cannot just put one number.

I can't just put the "0" because that would mean zero weight, which would equal zero shipping.

If I just put the ".6", the shipping weight would be wrong. ".6" is about 10 ounces vs. ".06", which is only about 1 ounce.
Consequently shipping will be calculated incorrectly.

If I just put the "6" without the decimal, the shipping weight would be grossly wrong, because just a "6" inserted means 6 pounds.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to list a test item with a one pound weight and consequently, I inserted "1" (for the one pound weight) and I got the same shipping error. Consequently, the problem is most likely not the amount of the weight, but something else. I just do not know what. After getting the error to check all require fields and values, without changing anything, I clicked "Save" again and the item did list.

However, when tried to purchase this one pound test item, the amount for shipping said $00.00 on the checkout page. In addition, the same strange toy truck was there, although I listed the item without an image and I do not have any toy truck images stored on my computer.

I thought I was finally at the point that I could start listing , however, there is possibly a bug. I will submit a ticket.

The shipping will show $00 until you enter a state and zip code ....maybe something else too, I can't remember.

The random picture is a bisi glitch that other sellers have mentioned when they list without an image. I guess we should be thankful it's a usually a "nice" picture and not something weird.

After I insert a zip code on the Cart page, I noticed an error message comes up: "Unable to calculate shipping rates" after you insert you zip code".

I thought today that I would try to work with "flat rate shipping" in my store since "calculated shipping" is "broken" in my store, so that I can move forward with my store. However, an item I listed today with "flat rate shipping" also says: "Unable to calculate shipping rates" after you insert you zip code. Consequently, shipping evidently does not work in my store period.
