When adding my products I am placing them in a secondary category as well as a primary one. They do go into the secondary, but don't appear in the category list on the left (the number of products in the category stays at 0).
Any ideas on how to make the number register when product is added?

The product count ( ) doesn't count secondary assignments. If you are using custom templates, some people opt to remove that (count) from the list so that there are no categories showing (0) when they do indeed have items.

If you can't do that, then I think it's helpful to spread out your first cat assignments so that each category has at least SOME items and will show some inventory on the category list. Most people won't notice if the list shows 10 items and there are really 20 when they get there, but if it shows 0 items, few people will even click on it at all.

That stinks because I have them seperated into die cuts, punchies, etc in my first category and themes like beach, baby, etc in my second. I wonder if it would be better just to have them split up by theme as my first. What do you think? How do you like to shop by type or theme?

Maybe I'm missing something? If you choose your secondary category first, then choose your main category second, items will appear in the right order and add up correctly in your catalog list. Is that not what you're doing? It is counterintuitive, and took awhile to get used to. I searched old forum messages one day and that was the answer I found so that's what I've been doing.

That works if your item's first and second choices are the main and sub level categories but not if you want the same item to appear in two main categories or two different sub level categories. It's all very confusing.
